So close we can taste it

We're less than a month away from the new close date now, and the house is getting pretty close to being done. This week the appliances got installed (we're only buying the microwave, oven and dishwasher from the builder), they cleaned, and most of the hardware for doors, etc. went in.

There's some things left to do to button up the inside, such as a couple of paint touch-ups, fixing one of the basement steps, things like that. As far as it looks to us, it's ready to move in, but I'm sure there's things we aren't seeing. The final walkthrough is Feb. 10 so that's not that far away. We're happy to be saving the extra money.

They also finished up the stonework on the outside of the house this week. We're also down to the last few items on our "need to buy" list. Soon enough we'll be painting.

All in due time

Ahh the joys of new construction. Because our lovely hardwood floors were a bit late getting here (after the builder switched vendors), our close date was pushed back to Feb. 17.

Oh well, we just look at it as more time to save some money. Above is a pic of the master bathroom. Today I was in and found out that the sinks are in, water is working, and all the lights and electrical plates are installed and operational.

Still left: trim work in the family room, hanging closet doors, paint touch up, appliances, one more cabinet to install in kitchen (waiting for oven), carpet. I think that's it. I'm sure there's other small things I don't know about, but from what I can see, that's where we're at.

More this weekend.

Anyone for hoops?

Well, Amy is not likely to let me play basketball on the new floors, but maybe I can just practice my dribbling skills.

Anyhow, below you can see how the hardwood floors in the kitchen look (same floor is in the foyer).

That's it for now, we're only two weeks away from our final walkthrough. Yikes!

23 day and counting...

I know, it's been a while. But we were so busy over the holidays buying stuff for the house that I didn't have time to update the blog.

Anyhow, pics of the latest developments below:

You can tell the color of our cabinets above, a dark maple. The hardwood floors in the foyer and kitchen will be dark like that as well.

What you can tell more of in this pic is that the familiar stripes of drywall work are gone as the house has been painted, ceiling included.

The hardwood has actually been laid as well, but we don't have pics of that yet.

We're beginning to take over the VBs basement. Light fixtures, curtain rods, vaccuums, all the fun things you need when first moving into a house. We're so thankful for their hospitality and generosity, we've had so much fun there.

We also picked our paint colors. Bedroom will be a green color, Benjamin Moore 501 Mesquite. If you're so inclined you can look it up at www.benjaminmoore.com. We also bought some bedroom furniture from Art Van. Here's a shot of the collection. We got the dresser and mirror, two night stands, but we got a different bed than in the picture, just a brushed nickle as shown here. Found a good sale on them too so we got a great deal.

In the living room we decided against the red wall. We just felt too much red with our couches, which are also red. So we decided to do some neutral colors from Ralph Lauren at Home Depot. Here's the RL web site. Colors are Urban Loft 38 (UL 38) Greenwich and Naturals 10 (NA10) Sisal. Greenwich, the lighter color, will go in most areas. The back wall of the house, that was going to be red, will be the Sisal, which is a bit darker.

As we get closer to the date, we'll be putting more info up.
