Hand Cramps

As of Friday at 11 a.m., Amy and I are officially homeowners (can we borrow some money?)

Technically I guess we didn't legally own the home until about 2:40 on Friday due to a clerical error at the title company. You see Amy was in North Carolina at the time of the close working a meeting so through a power of attorney, I was able to sign for her.

For those of you who have closed on a house before, you know my pain of having to sign my name and her name to every piece of paper. But it wasn't just her name, it was signing my name where I normally would have, signing her name for her, then writing "by POA" and signing my name again, basically signing all 4,235 pieces of paper three times.

So at 11 a.m., after signing everything, I was handed my keys (and 30 years of debt) amidst smiles and congratulations. So I left Southfield bound for the paint store and our new house.

Forty minutes later my phone rings. It was the title company. Seems they printed out the wrong set of forms for me to sign as power of attorney. I had to redo all of them.

The close agent met me in Milan to do so, and informed me that this time I needed to sign my name, Amy's name, the phrase "by Power of Attorney in Fact" and my name again. Forty minutes of strictly signing papers later, we legally owned the house.

And after many hours of hard work on Saturday by my family (thanks Al, Brian, mom, dad and Yvonne) the master suite, living room, kitchen, and entry were all painted. It was officially a home.

Now comes the fun part, moving everything in and hooking up all the new lights and dimmers, etc. Thanks also to the VBs for bringing a bunch of stuff from their house to ours Saturday afternoon as well.

Pictures to come soon, since I forgot the camera this morning when I left.
